I grew up about 25 miles down the track from Jackfish. My grandfather Muggs McCuaig worked on the railroad and knew it and the people who lived there well. For a few summers in a row he and my grandmother and some of the younger children stayed there and I beleive my Grandmother cooked for the hotel that was there. I have been to Jackfish every summer for the last few years. When I was younger I remember a lot of old buildings still standing but not many are today, just a few on the outskirts of the old town. Its strange to be there and think of what a bustling little place it once was. I grew up listening to stories about life there.....I am hoping to get a copy of this book, wondering how true it is to the history of Jackfish....

This is the first I have heard of this book, I would love to read it. My parents and older siblings were born in Jackfish, Ontario, my dad was a commercial fisherman there until 1963. We had a camp(originally the house my dad built for the family) there for a number of years and I would love going to Jackfish, it was a great place to spend the summer. The last time I was in Jackfish was the year my dad passed away, 1992, all the family was in Thunder Bay for the funeral and then we took a day trip to Jackfish to give my mother a chance to roam around and remember the good old days.

I've read this book and it's as good as the reviews are all saying. It is definitely not fluff, even though it's non-fiction. I am from Northern Ontario and know most of the areas she refers to in the book, which is a bit of a kick. The author was here in Sault Ste. Marie this past week to do a reading and I had my copy autographed. The book reading was excellent and Sarah explained where some of the stories within her book came from, all very interesting. If any of you hear she's going to be doing a reading near you, I'd highly recommend you go!!!
If it's not too late, count me in on the draw. I would love to have a copy to give as a gift.
