Chase Away Winter Blues With a Carnival

~Thanks for the guest post by Esteban Vinson

Each winter, our family travels to Saranac Lake for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. This area of the Adirondacks is as much a part of our family as our own home. Even though the kids are getting older now, they look forward to this trip as much as they do their summer vacation. My husband and I save all year long in order to take this trip.

Saranac Lake has hosted Winter Carnival for over 100 years. It is a 10-day festival that really helps to break up the winter. There is something for everyone to enjoy. My husband, the kids, and I go ice skating on the lake and we also go skiing and sledding every winter.

Winter Carnival brings out the best food vendors in the nation. We always eat too ! much when we go, but it is a once a year vacation, so I’m not too worried about it. The kids love the parades and the fireworks, and we usually get to see several performances as well.

We always rent a log cabin when we go to the Adirondacks. Although it looks rustic on the outside, we have all the amenities we would get if we stayed in a nice hotel. This way, we get the feeling of camping in the mountains, but we are not really roughing it at all. Before we leave for Winter Carnival, we always set our Adt Home Alarm. Then we’re off for a week at our favorite winter playground.
